Case overview : 7 months old Alaskan puppy presented for intermittent bilious vomiting for the last 2 days and being lethargic and off food

History

Diagnostics

Treatment

Chewing habits: Known to chew on non-food items including toys and socks.

Defecation: No bowel movement in last 24 hours. Owner noted straining and discomfort.

Vomiting: Intermittent bile stained vomiting for the last 2 days

Abdominal Radiographs

Plication of intestines - Gas pattern suggests possible obstruction

Abdominal Ultrasound

Confirmed linear foreign body


Exploratory laparotomy was indicated and submitted for surgery

Foreign body was consistent of a towel dobby border owner recognized later

Ventral midline approach from xyphoid to the umbilicus

Exploration of the intestines - Long linear foreign body was observed

segmental intussusception observed while exploring

Plication ( severe ) over the foreign body

incision midway the extent of the fb- Multiple incision might be needed for such long ones

Enterotomy incision should be long enough to help in manipulation otherwise multiple incisions might be needed

Foreign body ( towel dobby border )

Removal of the obstructive material

Omental stay suture for omentalization

Omentalization help to prevent tissue to tissue adhesion

Final warm irrigation

content pass normally with no leak

Parts of the extracted material

Extracted material estimated around 1 meter long
