Mandibular Sialedectomy

Mandibular sialoadenectomy is the surgical removal of the mandibular and sublingual salivary glands, which are closely associated anatomically and are typically excised together as a single unit.
This procedure is commonly performed to treat sialoceles (salivary mucoceles), chronic sialadenitis, neoplasia, or duct obstruction affecting these glands

A 6 years old Glen Terrier presented for mandibular and salivary mucoceles

history of previous aspiration attempts with relapse 1 month earlier to presentation

  • Soft, fluctuant, non-painful swelling in the intermandibular region (right side).
  • No signs of systemic illness (normal temperature, appetite, and behavior).
  • Oral examination: No foreign bodies; mild elevation of the floor of the mouth on the same side (sublingual swelling consistent with a ranula).
  • No regional lymphadenopathy or discharge.
