Gastric Outflow obstruction in 4 months old puppy

Gastric outflow obstruction (GOO) is a condition characterized by a partial or complete blockage at the pylorus or proximal duodenum, preventing the normal passage of stomach contents into the small intestine it is a common life-threatening condition in dogs and cats and needs immediate intervention , usually caused by lodgment of foreign body

Clinical Signs

Diagnosis

The dog was presented with a 2–3 day history of vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy.

  • Depressed and dehydrated (≈8%)
  • Abdominal distension with marked pain on palpation
  • Occasional attempts to vomit clear or foamy fluid
  • Abdominal Radiographs:
    Revealed a distended stomach with soft-tissue opacity suggestive of a foreign body
  • Abdominal Ultrasound:
    Identified a large hyperechoic intragastric structure with shadowing, consistent with foreign material
