Double Intussusception with Rectal Prolapse

Intussusception is a condition in which one segment of the intestine telescopes into the adjacent segment, leading to intestinal obstruction and possible ischemia.
While single intussusception is relatively common in young animals, double intussusception with rectal prolapse is extremely rare

This case highlights a 3-month-old puppy presenting with this uncommon and complex condition.

A 3-month-old Golden Retriever puppy was presented with a history of straining, tenesmus, and Luckily protrusion of the rectum for one day because the owner didn't plan to get it checked until prolapse took place . The owner also reported vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy for 24hours prior to presentation.

Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a characteristic “target sign” confirming intestinal intussusception

Emergency exploratory laparotomy was performed .

Two intussusceptions were identified — an ileo-cecal & ceco-colic intussusceptions The involved bowel was edematous and congested, but viable.

Gentle manual reductions was successfully achieved preserving the intestines and avoiding resection and anastomosis
