Salter Harris Type I Fracture

alter–Harris fractures are a classification of physeal (growth plate) fractures that occur in immature animals where the epiphyseal plate (physis) is still open


They involve varying degrees of disruption to the physis, metaphysis, and epiphysis, and are important because of their potential impact on future bone growth and joint function

A 7-month-old male domestic shorthair cat was presented with acute non–weight-bearing lameness in the right hindlimb following a fall from a height (second-floor balcony).
The owner reported sudden pain and inability of the cat to bear weight on the affected limb immediately after the incident.
No other injuries were observed externally.

  • Non–weight-bearing lameness
  • Pain, swelling, and crepitus
  • Abnormal mobility
  • Shortening of the affected limb
