Salter II

alter–Harris fractures are a classification of physeal (growth plate) fractures that occur in immature animals where the epiphyseal plate (physis) is still open


They involve varying degrees of disruption to the physis, metaphysis, and epiphysis, and are important because of their potential impact on future bone growth and joint function

A 9-month-old male Scottish Shorthair cat was presented to the clinic with acute non–weight-bearing lameness of the left hindlimb following a fall from a table.
The owner reported immediate pain and inability of the cat to bear weight on the affected leg. No external wounds were observed.

  • Non–weight-bearing lameness
  • Pain, swelling, and crepitus
  • Abnormal mobility
  • Shortening of the affected limb

Fixation : flexible intramedullary pins (Nancy pins) with cerclage wires
